Voice Teacher and Vocal Coach
|
|
Recently Jennie had the opportunity to work behind the scenes as a vocal coach for the Mirvish production of Billy Elliot. As a member of the music staff she coached the young actors in the roles of "Billy" and "Micheal" as well as adult actors in
the roles of "Dad" and "Tony". Through this work she gained valuable experience with the changing male voice, and maintaining vocal health within the cast of this
demanding production.
Jennie is a Lecturer in Applied Voice at the University of Western Ontario where her
studio includes a wide range of students, from first year to Masters level. She
also maintains a busy voice studio at Branksome Hall where she teaches students
ranging in age from grade 4-12.

Masterclasses and Choral Workshops
|
|
Jennie was invited to Mount Allison University to work with the undergraduate vocal majors in a masterclass setting. She will be returning to present another vocal
masterclass there in 2013.
Jennie has been invited to work with the East York Choir in their vocal retreat, and
the Victoria College Choir in preparation for their production of the Mikado. She
has also adjudicated choirs and small vocal ensembles at the Gander, Sudbury
Peterborough, National Capitol Region and Sault Ste. Marie Kiwanis Festivals.
When working with choirs Jennie incorporates a soloist's perspective on the techniques of vocal support, breath control, diction, projection and word emphasis
into a choral setting, and encourages each chorister to connect with the drama of
the text, to create a wider palate of vocal colours.
